1950 - Simca 6 découvrable - Lot 42
1950 - Simca 6 découvrable French registration Chassis n°0614785 Engine n°615478 Body n°614810 - A concentrate of 1950s automotive charm - An unusual popular mini-car - Good basis for restoration or simple overhaul - Registration in order and engine running - Sold without reserve price The Société Industrielle de Mécanique et de Carrosserie Automobile was originally a factory set up by Fiat in the 1930s to build and sell the Italian manufacturer's cars on French soil. It was an ingenious way of getting round customs duties and other import taxes, at a time when the free trade we know today was not yet in force. At this time, while some manufacturers opted for luxury, excess and a wealthy international clientele, most aligned themselves with protectionist and rigorous policies in the face of the crisis, offering simple, economical cars. It was in this spirit that the Fiat 500 "Topolino" was conceived, and sold in France under the Simca badge. After the war, production restarted and an evolution of the Simca 5 was presented in 1947. Simply christened the 6, it was a first for Simca, which gained independence from the Italian manufacturer by designing it in France. Aesthetically, it was more in the pontoon style, with a wider front end and integrated fenders, but also longer. Mechanically, it is also slightly more powerful, while the interior is better finished. Available as a convertible two-seater coupe or van, it was no match for the Peugeot 203, Renault 4CV and Citroën 2CV, all of which had 4 seats. After just 3 years of production, the Simca 6 bowed out in 1950, with just 16,500 examples built, making it a popular car of the immediate post-war period that is rarely seen. Our car is one of those rare little birds. It's a delightful little popular car, perfectly suited to city and country drives. The open-top bodywork is elegantly dressed in two-tone black and burgundy. The green and burgundy imitation upholstery has a beautiful patina of over 70 years, while the soft-top fabric is more recent. It was acquired in 2022 by the last owner from a family who had owned it for many years, since it was still registered XX EX 22. This example, already restored in the past, is in its original condition and requires a little attention, but is generally sound. The engine is running and functional, but needs a complete overhaul, even if the belt and battery are recent. A number of other elements need to be reviewed, such as the brakes, and the paintwork may also need some attention, depending on individual requirements. With 48972 kilometers on the odometer, this is an excellent basis for restoration. Its design is simple, and a small budget will easily enable its future purchaser to envisage a restoration in the rules, either to give it back its original shine, or to personalize it according to his own tastes. The car is sold without a technical inspection, but is accompanied by a valid collector's registration document. There's no doubt that this little Simca 6 will prove at home on today's roads, once properly restored. And last but not least, it's sold without a reserve price, making this attractive classic car a great opportunity to drive differently.
