1931 - Ford A cabriolet - Lot 47
1931 - Ford A cabriolet French registration Chassis n°A2842534 Body n°161-32714 Engine n°A2842534 - An authentic myth from automotive history - Superb combination of bodywork and colors - Followed car in good mechanical and aesthetic condition - A one-way ticket to the 1930s! What an era the Ford T was. This car has become mythical because it's the one that started it all, and there's no doubt that the automotive market wouldn't be the same without all the possibilities and innovations it brought. It was a huge first success for an industry that was non-existent in 1908. After more than 15 million units sold and a 19-year career, it was time to find a replacement. The new Ford A perpetuated the end of the T's career, while continuing to innovate and, above all, diversify. Several body styles were available at the end of the T's career, but it's with the A that Ford offers the general public a real diversity of models: open or closed sedans, coupes, convertibles, roadsters, runabouts, wood-paneled or woody station wagons, deluxes, convertibles, utility vehicles... There's something for every taste, not to mention all the accessories. Ford invented the concept of "range" and "options". The A was produced in the USA, Europe, South America and even Japan. Its 3.3-liter engine produces 40 horsepower, enabling it to reach speeds of over 100 km/h. In just 4 years, 4.8 million A models were produced. The T may have set the automotive industry on its way, but it was with the A that it truly became democratic. Our Ford A is a superb convertible body in black and light yellow with red edging. Its lines are enhanced by a wealth of chrome and superb red-painted spoked wheels with whitewall tires. Hard to find a better travel ticket for the 1930s! The white hood opens onto a remarkable two-seater interior in brown leather. The beige dashboard with red piping is crowned by a cap and a varnished wood windshield frame. As was customary on convertible bodies of this period, a second bench seat retracts into the trunk compartment to provide two additional seats. This car has already been restored several years ago, and time has given it a beautiful patina perfectly in keeping with the old-fashioned spirit of this Ford A. In order to make it suitable for everyday use, the mechanics of this convertible have been made reliable and modernized. Its last owner has been happy with it since 2012, and it has been well-maintained. The only formality for the future buyer will be a new roadworthiness test, but the car is accompanied by its French registration document. For such an old car, its behavior is easy to grasp once the technical aspects have been assimilated, and this Ford A is a pleasant car, especially with such an endearing body.
