1989 - Vanclee Mungo - Lot 68
1989 - Vanclee Mungo French registration Chassis n°YA9VCEMU289138007 Engine n°A06/635 - 0908515585 - Belgian version of the Mehari by a buggy specialist - Very rare vehicle and one of the last remaining examples - Only 3 owners and less than 67500 kms - Good condition and working order Founded in the late 1960s, Vanclee is a Belgian manufacturer specializing in the production of leisure vehicles, in particular buggies and off-roaders based mainly on Volkswagens. The brand stands out for its innovation and design, meeting the needs of adventure enthusiasts. The Mungo, one of its iconic models, embodies this tradition, combining functionality with a simple retro aesthetic. Introduced in 1980, it's a more modern, better-finished evolution of the Vanclee Emmet, which was produced on a confidential basis and marketed for just two years. It rode the wave of the German Mehari sales ban, competing with its German counterpart, the Sherpa from Fiberfab. The Vanclee Mungo is a leisure vehicle, inspired by the Mehari and based on the chassis and mechanics (a 29-hp, 602 cm3 twin-cylinder) of the Citroën 2CV 6, designed for activities in the great outdoors. Its polyester bodywork promises incomparable durability and ease of maintenance. Its interior layout offers seating for up to four passengers and a modular load area for maximum practicality. There were several versions of the Mungo, including two- and four-seaters, as well as open and closed pick-ups with cab or tarpaulin. Just a few hundred units of this original vehicle were produced in all versions, making the Mungo a sought-after model for outdoor enthusiasts. The Vanclee Mungo shown here is a two-seater (pickup) version with a tarpaulin. It's a late-production model, having been put on the road in September 1989, most probably in France. According to the Histovec report, it had only three owners, one of whom kept it for 20 years, before its last owner bought it in July 2017. Having spent most of its life in the Alpes-Maritimes, in the hands of its second owner who regularly maintained it, as part of the file attests, it is now in satisfactory original condition. The bumpers are a little damaged and the driver's seat upholstery is torn, but otherwise there are no particular defects to report and the adjustments are quite good. Mechanically, it benefited from work (clutch and cylinder head) between 2012 and 2017 and runs well. Its MOT is up to date as of September 2024 and it has only 67465 original kilometers. White with blue and black piping, matched with black Vanclee side lettering, all combined with a white soft top, this Mungo benefits from a sober and elegant presentation, which is also ideal in hot regions for reflecting heat. It is also equipped with a trailer hitch, enabling it to fulfill its utility vocation to the full. If you're looking for a beach vehicle that's as rare and cutting-edge as it is robust and functional, look no further than the Mungo. And this one is certainly one of the most authentic still in existence!
