1972 - Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina - Lot 7
1972 - Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina French registration Chassis n°2320504 Engine n°AR00512*S0174 - The most upmarket Alfa Romeo of its time - Beautiful livery with magnesium wheels and long-range headlights - Good general condition and working order - Less than 47900 kms on the odometer, probably corresponding to only 147900 kms Introduced in January 1968, the Alfa Romeo 1750 replaced the Giulia, which had been a great commercial success. Code-named "project 105", the new sedan had to do better in every respect. Its lines are still the work of designer Bertone, and its angular shapes are perfectly in tune with the times. The 1750 is intended to be more upmarket than the Giulia, more powerful but also more comfortable. The engine block is made entirely of aluminum and features two overhead camshafts. It develops 118 hp and allows a top speed of over 180 km/h. A 132-hp 2000 version followed in 1971. The body remained unchanged from the 1750, but was fitted with air conditioning. The powertrain also evolved, with 4 disc brakes and a 5-speed gearbox, enabling this sedan to reach 195 km/h. This made it the top-of-the-range Alfa Romeo. The Peugeot 504, a direct competitor, although larger in terms of dimensions, is far less powerful than the Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina. It's a very comfortable car, but also a high performer, making it one of the class champions for its time. It bowed out in 1977 after 191,720 units sold, of which 89,840 were equipped with the 2000 engine. The Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina presented here is of French origin, and was launched in April 1972 by the Paris 8ème Alfa Romeo dealership. It boasts an attractive electric blue color typical of the Seventies, magnesium accessory wheels (Jwl) and additional long-range headlights. The interior is in excellent beige leather with recent black carpets. It features well-preserved woodwork and a superb three-spoke tulip-shaped steering wheel in aluminum and wood, typical of the Italian firm. The engine is factory-spec, and even original according to the nameplate still present in the front compartment. Several documents confirm that the car clocked up 138,740 kilometers in 1993, while its 5-digit odometer now reads just over 48,800. We can therefore assume that its actual mileage is well under 149,900 kilometers, which is quite reasonable and rare for a car of this type. Its current owner acquired it in 2019. The carburetors were adjusted and the rocker panels rebuilt in 2021. The underpinnings were also protected. It is accompanied by its period presentation brochure and its up-to-date technical inspection dated September 2024. Finding an Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina in such good condition is no easy task, as this model has rarely received the care it deserves. Our example will allow you to appreciate the vocalizations of its inimitable 4-cylinder engine, so dear to the hearts of brand enthusiasts, in a warm atmosphere and with bold styling, while enjoying its real dynamic behavior, worthy of its coat of arms.
