In the 1980s, Ferrari continued to diversify. Families could choose between the 400 GT, worthy heir to Ferrari's line of large front-engined 4-seater GTs (initiated with the 250 GT 2+2 of 1960), and the Mondial, a new Pininfarina-designed rear-engined 2+2 berlinetta following Bertone's 308 GT4.
Convinced of the relevance of a 4-seater GT with a central rear engine, Enzo Ferrari returned to Pininfarina for this architecture, which was part of the range's democratization policy, necessary for the brand's long-term future.
In 1980, the Ferrari Mondial 8 was presented and marketed, with a 214 hp V8 engine in a central rear position. This model would benefit from technical evolutions over the years. But it was really in 1989 that a major evolution in the Mondial's career took place, with the launch of the Mondial T at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. The Mondial T was named after the change in engine positioning from transverse to longitudinal, with the gearbox positioned transversely. This architecture, taken from the future Ferrari 348, like the engine, significantly improved overall balance and performance.
The Mondial T features a new 3.4-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine developing 300 hp, combined with a mechanical gearbox. More powerful, more modern and more efficient than its predecessors, it also benefits from significantly improved roadholding and driving pleasure, thanks to its pilot-controlled suspension and reinforced braking. These profound improvements make the Mondial version T a completely new car.
With its rear mid-mounted V8, mechanical transmission, elegant Pininfarina-designed bodywork and four real seats, it remains a unique proposition in Ferrari history.
This ultimate evolution is unanimously considered the best of all Mondials, and is now one of the most endearing and versatile classic Ferraris of its generation. Even more so in a convertible version, the Mondial T offers a particularly seductive synthesis of sportiness and grand touring.
The Mondial offered here is a desirable T version in cabriolet bodywork, delivered new in France by Établissements Pozzi and put on the road on June 27, 1990.
In a Rosso Corsa livery with Pella Nera leather interior with matching black soft top and contrasting red carpets to match the bodywork, it benefits from a configuration that is both safe and attractive for a Ferrari.
As well as being French, it has a very good history, having had few owners, the current one having owned it since 2001, almost 25 years ago, when it was purchased from a Monegasque dealer with 13,000 km and a Monegasque registration.
It is this owner who has done most of the mileage, since the car now has just under 106,000 km. In view of this mileage and having never been restored, it is in an entirely satisfactory state of preservation, although it could be improved, for example by a few bodywork touch-ups.
Mechanically, this Mondial has been well maintained. The complete invoice file bears witness to the care it has received over the years. Among the most recent interventions, we note the refurbishment of the running gear and underfloor reinforcements, the replacement of the tires in 2022 and the windscreen in 2026.
This is a car that's ready to drive, but for which, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, the replacement of
