Aesthetically, its lines are lower, more fluid and sportier than those of classic Silver Cloud saloons. Designed by Mulliner Park Ward, it nonetheless retains all the aristocratic elegance typical of Rolls-Royce, with a long, well-balanced coupé silhouette, where the rigor of the design emphasizes its generous proportions despite a more dynamic vocation. The overall impression is one of discreet sophistication, a presence that is both majestic and discreetly sporty, typical of imposing grand touring coupes designed to be driven by their owners. Technically, this declination is still based on the separate steel chassis of the Silver Cloud III, but in a two-door version slightly optimized for fast long-distance driving. At the time, this architecture still allowed for the creation of special bodies, although such creations were becoming rarer, and were entrusted to Mulliner Park Ward. Mulliner Park Ward was formed from the merger of the two historic coachbuilders, and became Rolls-Royce's preferred partner for the most exclusive models. Under the hood, we find the 6.2-liter aluminum V8 introduced on the Silver Cloud III, fed by two SU carburetors, delivering power that is deliberately not claimed, but more than sufficient to move this luxury coupé with ease. Transmission is provided by a General Motors Hydramatic four-speed automatic gearbox, adapted and built under license by Rolls-Royce. Roadholding benefits from a specific setting for the coupé: the car is livelier and more capable of long cruising speeds than standard sedans, while retaining the silence and suppleness of the mechanical assembly characteristic of the brand. The suspension, with independent wheels at the front and a rigid axle at the rear, ensures a high level of comfort, while the hydraulic-assisted drum brakes remain faithful to the technical solutions of the time. This coupé configuration thus represents the culmination of Rolls-Royce grand touring before the modern era: a car designed to travel fast and far, in absolute comfort, but with a more personal and dynamic orientation, all the more so in the Continental version (Sports Chassis, CSC), than traditional chauffeur-driven limousines. Produced in very limited numbers, the Silver Cloud III Coupé Mulliner Park Ward is today one of the most sought-after versions in the Silver Cloud range, as much for its rarity as for the exceptional balance it embodies between classic elegance and grand touring spirit.
