2004 - Ford Focus RS - Lot 65
2004 - Ford Focus RS 2004 - Ford Focus RS N°3823/4501 French registration Chassis n°WFOBXXGCDB3L27672 Engine n°HMDA3L27672 - Limited edition "road WRC", a concentrate of Ford competition know-how - Well-preserved original Swiss car, arrived in France in 2015 - 199365 original kms with eFlexFuel ethanol E85 box installed in 2021 - Service history, user manuals and spare key CT under review No one is supposed to be unaware of Ford's omnipotence in the field of competition and the World Rally Championship. Since the 1970s, the manufacturer has seen this as a superb opportunity to line up its models and make them shine. The American giant went on to win several World Championship titles, and the Ford World Rally Team is now a veritable institution. In 1997, legislation changed once again with the creation of the WRC category, in which the cars entered had to be mass-produced, with more than 2,500 built. It was therefore only natural that Ford should use the Focus to defend its Rally colors from 1999 onwards. In 2002, Ford launched a supercharged version of the Focus MkI with an RS version, a name that has characterized the brand's models with high sporting potential since the 1960s. The engine was developed by Tickford Engeneering in England, and assembled at Ford's Saarlouis plant in Germany. Numerous parts are specific to this 2-liter engine, which has undergone a thorough performance study in order to get the best out of it. Forged pistons, connecting rods and a Garett turbocharger boost power to 215 hp, with a top speed of over 230 km/h and a 100 km/h time of just 6 seconds. The Focus RS also benefits from special equipment such as a Brembo braking system, OZ Racing alloy wheels and 65 mm wider wheel arches, not to mention a very exclusive interior, with Sparco bacquet seats in leather and alcantara and a carbon center console. Only 4,501 examples of this much-loved limited edition rolled off the production line between 2002 and 2003. Our car is one of these rare "road-going WRCs", launched in January 2004. It is still painted in Imperial Blue, the one and only color available for Focus RS at the time, with matching Sparco upholstery. This car was delivered new by the Ford dealership in Collombey, Switzerland, on January 6, 2004, to its first owner. It is therefore a late-production example of this increasingly reliable special series. Its future purchaser will be delighted to learn that the car is still accompanied by its maintenance booklet and manuals, its spare keys and a file of parts invoices from recent years, attesting to the care it has received. The car arrived in France in 2015 with just under 180,000 kilometers on the clock and now has a total of 199365, which is actually quite reasonable for a car over 20 years old and renowned for its solidity. In 2021, at 192600 kilometers, it was fitted with an E85 ethanol eFlexFuel box, renowned for being both economical and having no impact on performance, enabling it to take full advantage of its sporty temperament on a daily basis at a contained running cost. For the rest, our example has the undeniable advantage of having largely preserved its original condition, of having been obviously well maintained and of benefiting from a stable history, which is rare for a vehicle of this type that is both characterful and accessible, and which has sometimes passed through unscrupulous hands. All that remains to be done is to remedy the few flaws in the last MOT, dated October 23, 2024, to restore it to the collector's quality it so richly deserves. A vibrant tribute to the era of rallying and Team Ford's expertise in the field, this first-generation Ford Focus RS is indeed an authentic compact sports car and has become an icon on the market. A "youngtimer" to be collected as a matter of urgency!
